A light aircraft - subsequently identified as Europa G-BYIK - crashed on 16.3.2024 in a field off Common Lane near Full Sutton Airfield (EGNU). The pilot had a fortunate escape as he managed to exit the cockpit before firefighters arrived. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in this incident

A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue confirmed that there had been no injuries. The fire and rescue service’s incident log reports: “Light aircraft crash landed. Male self-released prior to arrival of fire service. Inspection only by firefighters. Incident left with airfield staff and ambulance.”

According to a report by Air Yorkshire (April 2024 issue - see link #5):

"On 16.3 [2024] resident G-BYIK Europa departed the runway and cartwheeled before coming to rest upright with serious damage. The sole occupant was not seriously injured but the Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended anyway, with G-YORX Bk.117D-3 (call sign "Helimed 98") arriving at 13.11hrs, departing 13.48hrs from & to its Nostell base. Very rare to get a helicopter at Full Sutton, as they are normally banned due to the proximity of the prison" [HMP Full Sutton]

According to the AirNav RadarBox website (see link #6) G-BYIK has not flown since this incident
